The Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Programme was launched by the Hungarian Government and is operated by the Tempus Public Foundation. Its core mission is to strengthen the connection between Hungary and Hungarian communities living abroad by offering high-quality education opportunities in Hungary for individuals of Hungarian descent.
The programme aims to support students who wish to rediscover their Hungarian roots and actively engage with Hungarian culture and traditions while pursuing their academic goals.
From year to year, the initiative welcomes applicants from a growing number of countries, providing a unique opportunity to study in Hungary and to become part of a global Hungarian community. From 2024 onwards, private universities have also been able to join, enabling Dennis Gabor University (DGU) to host international students within the framework of the programme.
- Tuition-free education: exemption from the payment of tuition fees.
- Monthly stipend:
- non-degree, bachelor, master, and one-tier master level: monthly HUF 43 700 contributions to the living expenses, for 12 months a year, until the completion of studies,
- doctoral level: monthly HUF 140 000 for 12 months a year until the completion of studies.
- Accommodation: As DGU currently does not opeate student hostels, scholarship holders are entitled to get a monthly contribution of HUF 40 000 to accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period.
- Medical insurance: health care services according to the relevant Hungarian legislation (Act CXXII of 2019 on Entitlements to Social Security Benefits and Funding These Services) and supplementary medical insurance for up to HUF 65,000 (cca EUR 160) a year/person
