Database design Student Workshop

Leader: Ilona Kupcsikné Fitus, master lecturer

"One should not write an application for a bad database structure, not even in a thesis... but as a database cannot be ideal, we can only try to make its requested functionality optimal and flexible in its extendibility."

The ability to create well planned databases is a sought after IT skill. It can be learned, but only by gaining experience in many different situations.

The goal of this workshop is to design databases for real life data systems by creating rules to account for possible self-contradictory data, and understanding the consequences of omitting such rules.

It is possible to protect the data from becoming inconsistent in the database by confident use of SQL commands. MS SQL Server is the practical tool for implementing the database with constraints and triggers, queries (with views and parametric functions) and stored procedures containing typical operations. The usage of non-evident constraints is shown in this workshop but creating and installing them is a topic in my other workshop.

Topics discussed in this workshop:

For the group work on building data systems the topic and version may vary based on group size. Possible topics:

electronic Educational system, Test exams, Cinema, Fast food restaurant, Audio library, Electronics store, Delivery, Gifting, Travel agency, Room reservations, Tourist trips, Public transportation, Car mechanic workshop, Clothing catalog, Ticket vendor, Software development, Theatre plays, Restaurant/Canteen, Bar, Gym, ... (participants may bring their own topics as well)

Basic knowledge of SQL is recommended for participants of the workshop.

“My Name is my BRAND” Student Workshop

Leader: Zsuzsa Gulyás

In our student workshop, we focus on preparing students for successful navigation in life. Our goal is to develop students' self-awareness and self-esteem, and to help them acquire skills essential for assertive communication and confident behavior in both personal and business contexts.

We place special emphasis on the importance of personal branding during our workshop sessions. We help students identify their individual values and target audience, and provide assistance in creating their visual identity and establishing their online presence.

Our main topics include self-reflection, emotional intelligence, communication, intercultural communication and ethics, as well as tools and methods for effective learning.

We trust that the course will provide students with extremely important and practical knowledge for successful navigation in all areas of life. The focus on personal branding and online presence is particularly relevant in today's digital world. The skills and knowledge provided by the student workshop can greatly contribute to the personal and professional development of the students.

Azure Fundamentals Student Workshop

Leader: Tibor Peck

In the framework of the workshop, we will take over the material of the official Microsoft course in Hungarian. During the workshop, you will learn the basics of Azure, while also preparing for the official Microsoft exam, which is not a mandatory part of the process.

Digital Photo School Student Workshop

Leader: Dr. József Berke PhD, CSc

The goal of the Digital Photo School Student Workshop is to create a mixed creative community where beginners and experts can mutually help each other in their development. Photography is still very popular nowadays, continuous technological developments provide a great opportunity to capture the moment. During the sessions, we can learn about the work of the members of the student workshop and areas, techniques, and image processing options that can be new to beginners or even an experienced photographer.

Several successful talents are members of the workshop, who have achieved outstanding results in domestic and international professional forums.

Our classes are primarily online lectures, but at the beginning of the academic year, practical classes also add colour to the work. With us, it is not important that you have a professional camera, the point is that you have a device suitable for photography. The composition, the way of seeing, and the special solutions and possibilities of each area play a prominent role.

It is important that for the first time, you must present 5-10 of your own pictures, by presenting them, we can get to know the new team member, what he likes to photograph, what he is interested in, what he wants to improve on.

SQL constraints workshop

Leader: Ilona Kupcsikné Fitus, master lecturer

"One should not write an application for a bad database structure, not even in a thesis... but as a database cannot be ideal, we can only try to make its requested functionality optimal and flexible in its extendibility."

The ability to create well planned databases is a sought after IT skill. In modern usecases creating data tables includes implementing constraints and useful views.

The goal of the workshop is to build all rules into the database for the chosen data system to prevent contradictory data, fully using the data defining and managing commands of the SQL language. MS SQL Server is the practical tool for implementing the database with constraints and triggers, queries (with views and parametric functions) and stored procedures containing typical operations. Creating and installing non-evident constraints is a central topic of the workshop.

Topics discussed in this workshop:

For the group work on building in constraints the topic may vary based on group size. Possible topics from the constructed data systems in the other workshop:

electronic Educational system, Cinema, Gifting, Test exams, Fast food restaurant, Electronics store, Travel agency, Room reservations, Public transportation, Car mechanic workshop, Restaurant/Canteen, Gym, ... (participants may bring their own topics as well)

Basic knowledge of SQL is recommended for participants of the workshop.

3D Design and Printing Student Workshop - Beginner Level

Leader: Gabor Krupa

In the second semester of the 2023/24 academic year, the 3D Design and Printing Student Workshop will commence.

Participants will get acquainted with the basics of the SolidWorks parametric CAD modeling software and gain insight into the functioning of 3D printing technologies. The workshop is practice-based, participants will complete tasks in SolidWorks with the instructor’s guidance, step by step, and collectively examine how the models can be manufactured using 3D printing.

During the semester, students will have the opportunity to visit the Rapid Factory office as part of a workshop session, where they can see Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printers in action and gain insight into the everyday life of a company specializing in additive manufacturing technologies. The classes will be held online. The semester concludes with an online exam, during which students will need to complete a simple 3D modeling task within a set time frame.

SolidWorks is available for free to students. All interested students are welcome to join the 3D Design and Printing Student Workshop!"

3D Design and Printing Student Workshop - Advanced Level

Leader: Gabor Krupa

In the second semester of the 2023/24 academic year, the 3D Design and Printing Advanced Student Workshop will be launched.

Building on the knowledge acquired in the first semester, participants will deepen their understanding of the SolidWorks program, learn about assembly tasks, create technical drawings, and animate movable models.

Every design operation will be analyzed for 3D printability. Participation requires successful completion of the "3D Design and Printing Student Workshop I." Classes are held online, concluding with an online exam involving a timed 3D modeling task. SolidWorks is available free for students. All advanced students are welcome to join the 3D Design and Printing Student Workshop!"
