About us

Dennis Gabor University (DGU) was established in 1992 as a private higher education institution. We have chosen our name honouring Dennis Gabor, a famous Hungarian electrical engineer and inventor. He is known for having received the Nobel Prize in Physics for inventing holography in 1971. The DGU was one of the first institute in Hungary to apply the distance education system in the field of IT higher education. Our distance learning system achieved national and international recognition, and was awarded with the Comenius EduMedia Special Award, International Socrates Award and Award of the Hungarian Society for Quality.

The University is located in Hungary, a welcoming country, in the heart of Europe, with rich historical and cultural traditions, unique cuisine. Our campus is in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, and it is equipped with the latest technology and provides excellent teaching-learning environment and has in the same time a personal atmosphere.

Since its foundation, the University has been operating increasingly successful programs of information technology and economics focused courses. Currently over 1,000 students are enrolled in various programs offered by the University.

Our students have the opportunity to work in two scientific research and development labs: Drone Technology and Image Processing, and Educational Methodology. We have more future-oriented, longer-term activities in science and technology. This is also indicated by the fact that the DGU lead more R&D projects in Information Technology. One of them is in the topic of Data and Information Security. More than 160 of the students who participated in the projects took part in a scientific student competition. The results of these projects appear in our education as well to improve the innovative and practical knowledge of the students. This way students can effectively prepare for a successful entry into the labour market.
Technology transfer is continuous between our institution and leading IT multinational companies. Our institute considers it important to develop and maintain international connections.

Mission
The mission of our University is to provide high-quality education which satisfies the requirements of the labour market and meets the challenges of both Hungary and the world. Our aim is to offer practice-oriented education based on academic theories. Our training is open and flexible, and the education is based on E-learning study materials. The diploma is recognised worldwide as being among the most up-to-date, living qualifications, necessary for a career in Information and Communication Technology. Over a period of 30 years more than 15,000 students have graduated and have begun work as successful professionals in various fields of computing. We have staff of highly motivated, well-qualified lecturers, who provide support for the students at all stage of their studies. Student support is an essential component of student life. DGU is committed to provide a wide range of support from the point of administration up to graduation.

Academic and educational development is undertaken in the context of Research and Development Programs of the University. The R&D programs are focused on our degree programs. In 2023 started our new MSc program of Computer Science Engineering in specializing of Drone Technology. The MSc program is aimed to educate computer science engineers, who are able to design IT systems and tools, develop and integrate IT systems, and perform and coordinate research and development tasks. After acquiring the natural science and specific technical knowledge related to the field of IT, the students study drone specialized subjects for example 5G Technology, Cloud, Block Change, Remote Sensing, Image Processing, Data Security, Space Technology, Drone Communications, Artificial Intelligence. The graduated computer science engineers have the practical skills to use drones, plan the flights, and process the received data in high level.
