INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Application and Admission
Applicants must be at least 18 years old by the end of the calendar year in which they apply. Candidates should have completed secondary education (high school) or be in their final year at the time of application. In the latter case, the matriculation or school leaving certificate must be submitted before the final deadline.
Students should have a strong academic background in natural sciences (especially IT and mathematics), solid English skills, and high motivation. The English-language programs are designed for foreign applicants who are not eligible for Hungarian-language programs.
Applicants who provide false information or violate admission rules may be disqualified at any stage.
Application Process and Required Documents
Applicants must express their intention for enrollment in written form to the International Center (bauer.livia@gde.hu) by June 15. Subsequently, the International Center will send an online application form to be completed by June 20 Applicants must send the following documents (in English or with certified English translations) via e-mail (bauer.livia@gde.hu) by 25 June. High school diploma/matriculation certificate (include document registration number).
- CV (in English).
- Letter(s) of Recommendation (optional but welcome).
- Copy of passport or national ID (EU/EEA students).
- Proof of payment of the EUR 300 admission procedure fee (if not paid online).
Enrolment and Registration
Medical Certificate confirming fitness for university study, issued within 90 days prior to the enrolment.
Admission Procedure Fee
The admission fee covers the management of the application procedure and up to two entrance exam attempts. The entrance exam consists of an oral interview. The EUR 300 admission procedure fee must be paid via bank transfer. For bank transfers, the payment date is considered the date the amount arrives in the university’s account. The admission procedure fee is EUR 300. It is non-refundable and must be paid in order for the application to be processed. The fee includes administrative costs and covers up to two entrance exam attempts.
Withdrawal of Application
Applications can be withdrawn before 31 July 2025 unless:
- The applicant has already taken or missed a scheduled entrance exam.
- An official admission decision has been made.
Entrance Examinations
After application submission, applicants will be informed about the date of the exam. Two attempts are allowed annually, covered by the admission procedure fee.
Exam Components:
- Oral interview (professional and personal)
- Motivation letter (500–1000 words)

- Announced via e-mail after application submission.
Admission Decisions and Appeals
Decisions are made by the Admission Committee based on academic records, interview results, English proficiency, and personal attributes (motivation, intellect, communication skills, etc.). Diversity and gender balance are also considered.
Applicants will be informed about the result of the exam within 5 working days. Appeals must be submitted within 15 days of the decision, with specific reasoning and evidence. Appeals are reviewed by the Rector.
Only authorized individuals with legally valid documentation may represent applicants.
If the exam is successful and the full tuition fee is paid, a Letter of Acceptance will be sent to the applicant.
Legal and Administrative Regulations for Foreign Student Applicants
Applicants must adhere to the "Rules for Foreign Language Programs for Foreign Citizens," as stipulated in the University's official admission regulations. Key provisions are outlined below:
- Admission Procedure Fee: The admission process commences only upon receipt of the non-refundable EUR 300 admission procedure fee in the University's designated bank account.
- Application Submission: The application form must be submitted with all mandatory documents, including a valid passport, relevant academic diplomas, and proof of payment.
- Online Admission Interview: All applicants are required to participate in an online admission interview, irrespective of whether they possess a language certificate.
- Final Admission: Admission is finalized only after all stipulated fees have been paid and the applicant has formally declared any optional services they intend to utilize.
- Fee Payment Policy: Tuition fees and any charges for additional services must be paid in full by the specified deadline. The University does not offer installment plans or tuition discounts.
- Acceptance Letters: The University will issue a Conditional Acceptance Letter detailing the required fees. A Final Acceptance Letter will be issued once all conditions have been satisfied.
- Refund Policy: Paid fees are refundable only under specific circumstances (e.g., program cancellation by the University or visa rejection). The application fee is generally non-refundable.

Deferring Admission
Admission is valid for the current year. Students unable to begin studies may request a one-year deferral with written justification. If approved, the deposit is retained, and admission resumes the following year. Deferral is not guaranteed and cannot be appealed if denied.
Enrolment and Registration
All students must register in the Neptun system. Required documents:
- Passport or EU/EEA ID
- Residence permit (if applicable)
- Valid health insurance
- Admission decision and enrolment form
- Proof of Hungarian address
Students receive detailed academic information during enrolment.
Residence Permit and Visa Information
Upon successful completion of the entrance exam and payment of the tuition fee, students will receive a Letter of Acceptance. Upon receipt of a Letter of Acceptance, international students must arrange their legal status to reside in Hungary.
EEA Nationals (EU, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein):
- May stay up to 90 days without registration.
- For longer stays, apply for a registration certificate at the National Directorate General for Aliens (OIF).
Required Documents:
- Valid passport or ID
- Student status certificate
- Proof of accommodation (residence hall certificate or tenancy agreement)
- Proof of financial means (scholarship, bank statement, or parental support)
- Valid health insurance (e.g., EHIC)
Non-EEA Nationals:
- Students from visa-required countries (e.g., India, China, Iran) must apply for a D-visa and residence permit at the Hungarian consulate.
- Visa is valid for single entry up to 3 months. The residence permit must be obtained upon arrival.
Visa-Free Countries (e.g., USA, Canada, Japan):
- Apply for a residence permit in Hungary via Enter Hungary Portal
- Personal appearance at OIF office required within 15 days for biometric enrollment.
Documents needed:
- Valid passport and one passport photo
- Letter of Acceptance
- Proof of accommodation and completed Notification of Accommodation form
- Proof of tuition fee payment (if self-funded)
- Proof of financial means
- Valid health insurance
- Language certificate or evidence of prior studies
- Procedure fee: HUF 24,000 (online) or HUF 39,000 (in-person)
Residence permits are valid up to 3 years and must be renewed 45 days before expiry. A passive student status invalidates the permit.
Address Registration:
- Required in Enter Hungary within 3 days of arrival or address change.
- Carry the address card at all times.
If Leaving Hungary:
- Cancel residence and address cards before departure.

Health Insurance
Health insurance is mandatory for obtaining a residence permit. The policy must meet Hungarian standards.
For non-EU students, recommended providers may be suggested by the university. Coverage should include general care, hospitalization, and emergencies.
Working While Studying
With a valid residence permit, students can:
- Work up to 30 hours/week during semesters
- Work full-time for up to 90 days or 66 working days during holidays
Transport and Student Passes
Students with valid ID receive discounted travel:
- Pest County Pass: HUF 945/month (valid in Budapest and surrounding areas)
- National Pass: HUF 1,890/month (valid nationwide)
- Airport Bus 100E: not covered by student passes
Passes are available via BKK customer service, ticket machines, or the BudapestGO app.
Student Card Application
Steps:
- Request NEK form from the Government Office (XI. district, Bocskai út 39-41).
- Required: valid passport/ID, proof of address (address card or tenancy agreement), and student status certificate. - Apply through Neptun:
- Administration > Student Card Application > +New Application
- Enter the NEK ID and confirm data
A temporary certificate is issued until the physical card arrives (4–8 weeks).
